A Soul-Nourishing Winter Retreat: For Women to Gather, Rest, and Come Alive
For many winters now, I have gathered women at Florence House in Sussex, a sanctuary by the sea where time seems to slow, the air feels softer, and the demands of daily life begin to loosen their grip. Here, in the glow of candlelight and the warmth of a crackling fire, something shifts. We remember how to listen; to ourselves, to one another, and to the quiet wisdom of the season.
This retreat is an antidote to the pace of the outside world, especially as we approach the Winter Solstice and the days before Christmas, when life beyond our doors grows louder, brighter, and busier. In this space, we do the opposite. We turn toward the slower rhythm of winter, choosing candlelight over glare, stillness over hurry, and depth over distraction, while still holding joy at the heart of it all.
Year after year, women return for the quiet magic of these days together. We sit in Women’s Circle, sharing words, laughter, and the kind of silence that feels full and nourishing. We honour winter as a teacher, a season that invites us to tend to our inner landscapes, to soften, to rest, and to rekindle our love for life, community, and self.
This is your invitation to set down the endless doing, managing, and proving, and to step into a gentler way of being. Here, your nervous system can finally exhale. Here, presence matters more than productivity. Here, you are met exactly as you are, nothing to fix, nothing to earn, nothing to hide.
Over our days together, you will be held in a rhythm of:
Heart-awakening circles where truth and tenderness meet.
Deeply restorative Yoga Nidra to renew your whole being.
Guided movement and embodied breathwork to bring you home to your body.
Time for the sea and sky to walk the winter shore, breathe the salt air, or simply curl up with tea by the fire.
Whether you long for rest, soulful connection, or the space to hear your own heart again, this retreat offers care and spaciousness in equal measure.
By gifting yourself this pause, you return to something essential, a slower, softer rhythm that feels profoundly alive. Together, we will listen for the whispers of winter, welcome its stillness, and allow healing to unfold in its own time.
Some things cannot be put into words, and the magic of this retreat is one of them. But those who have joined before often find their own way to describe it:
“Truly enlivening, thought-provoking, spellbinding, powerful, calming, exciting, quiet… transformation, restorative retreat.” Liisa
“A safe, nourishing and nurturing place that allows me to be seen and heard for all that I am.” Mel
“Very safe place to retreat, whatever you are bringing.” Claire
“Felt loved, held, and safe to explore and open in my own time, with my own wisdom or with someone by my side. Within this I learn, grow, and move with more ease than before.” Christina
“I enjoyed the connection with others. My room was lovely and the food was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed being so close to the sea and walking with others.” Dawn
“Another magical retreat. Beautiful venue and Tanya’s attunement and practices are unlike any other. Eternally grateful.” Astrid
“This retreat was just the beginning of an awakening. I feel like there is a slow blossoming, and I’m excited to continue this journey knowing that Tanya is by my side to guide me. True, deep thanks and a sincere recommendation to anyone needing direction and guidance.” Fiona
I would love for you to join us in this sacred pause, to exhale, to be held, and to come home to yourself.
ABOUT TANYA
I am Tanya Forgan, Group Facilitator, Embodiment Guide, and devoted space-holder for rest, healing, and connection. My work is deeply rooted in the decolonisation of spaces that push us to always do, urging us instead to remember the sacred rhythm of being. I believe that rest is not something we must earn—it is our birthright.
At the heart of all my offerings is Ubuntu, "I am because we are." Community is the thread that weaves us back to ourselves, to one another, and to something greater than us all. The Winter Retreat is a deeply special gathering, a time when we step out of the relentless pace of everyday life and into the arms of stillness, nourishment, and belonging. It is a place where we gather as women to listen, soften, and truly land in our bodies.
FLORENCE HOUSE
Renowned for its creative, fresh, homely food. When possible, food is sourced from their own garden. Our menu for the winter retreat is in alignment with the values we hold ~ nourishing, restorative and delicious.
THE GATHER/ REST SPACE
Nestled with breathtaking views of the South Downs, the Rest Space is more than just a retreat setting—it is a sanctuary where rest, reflection, and connection unfold naturally.
Designed for deep comfort and ease, this cosy haven invites you to exhale fully, releasing the weight of the outside world and settling into a rhythm that feels nourishing and true.
Whether curled up with a book, journaling by the window, or sharing moments with others, you’ll find yourself embraced by an atmosphere that soothes the nervous system and welcomes you home to yourself.
Here, we gather in Circle, breathing deeply, sharing from the heart, and allowing the wisdom of winter to guide us inward. It is a space where silence is as welcome as laughter, where stories weave us together, and where each moment is an opportunity to land fully in the present.
