Embodied Inclusion
Embodied Inclusion: Holding Space with Love and Liberation
Calling all mentors, facilitators, circle holders, therapists, and leaders who long to create spaces where everyone feels not only safe to enter, but truly welcome to belong.
Do you care deeply about the people in your spaces and the wider work of social justice, but sometimes feel the weight of ‘getting it wrong’? Have you read the books, attended the trainings, yet still wonder how to bring inclusion into the heart of your gatherings in a way that feels authentic and embodied? Would you like to feel more resourced and courageous in creating spaces that are braver, kinder, and more equitable?
Then this is for you.
This is not a tick-box exercise. It is a living, ongoing practice, one rooted in curiosity, humility, and love. Together we will explore how inclusion is built into the very fabric of a space: the tone we set, the assumptions we challenge, the choices we make, and the ways our bodies wordlessly say you are welcome here.
As a space holder, you may already be familiar with language like power and privilege, intersectionality, oppression, anti-racism, and social justice. But how do these concepts live in your body as you facilitate? How do they shape the ways you listen, design, and respond in real time? And how do power structures, both visible and invisible, influence the shared spaces we create together?
Many people arrive in our spaces carrying a long, quiet history of exclusion or marginalisation. These experiences live in the body and can shape how they show up, whether by withdrawing, bracing, or reacting in ways that ripple through the group field. Inclusion is not about removing all discomfort, but about cultivating a culture where difference can exist without being erased, and where every participant has the best chance to stay present and engaged.
In this work we will:
- Examine and reflect: Explore how power and privilege manifest in your world and the spaces you hold.
- Unearth assumptions: Notice the ways language, frameworks, and habits might unintentionally exclude.
- Explore power structures in shared spaces: Identify who holds influence, whose voices are heard, and whose perspectives may be missing.
- Learn about intent vs. harm: Develop the capacity to repair ruptures with care and integrity.
- Explore your alignment: Ensure your practices are congruent with a commitment to equity and social awareness.
- Commit to healthy allyship: Embody allyship as love in action for a more just and caring world.
We will embody this through:
- Courageous Conversations: Honest, respectful dialogue that deepens understanding.
- Pair/Triad Workgroups: Practice real-time skills for inclusive space creation.
- Reflective Journaling: Integrate learning on a personal level.
- Guided Embodiment Practices: Stay grounded as we navigate complexity.
- Deep Rest: Allow the body to absorb and anchor the work.
We will all miss things, that is inevitable. What matters most is how we respond: staying open, listening with humility, making space for repair, and holding the commitment to keep learning.
This work is best taken slowly, so we can stay in connection and remain resourced. It asks us to keep widening our awareness without losing our centre. Talking about change matters; embodying change transforms.
