The word “solstice,” in Latin, means sun standing still. The longest night (meaning it contains the most hours of darkness) is the time to nurture and soothe your body, mind and soul. Winter Solstice is a powerful turning point in our year.
Around the time of the Winter Solstice we get ready to welcome the light back in as the night passes and we get to see the days slowly become longer. For centuries this time of the year was for rest and reflection, but today the run up to Christmas can be a hectic time of doing for many, often leaving a feeling of stress and exhaustion.
By honouring the seasons and the changes taking place in nature we can tap in to our own inner wisdom. This is a time to slow down and connect with ourselves and the natural world around us.
I invite you to join me at the ‘Winter Solstice’ weekend retreat. We will enter the beautiful Florence House in Sussex on the Friday afternoon. This is known as a place ‘where extraordinary things happen’. We will gather to enjoy some gentle practice together – restorative yoga and movement, circle time, breathwork, guided deep rest mediation and more wonderful delights. We will also take some of our time in the yurt in the mini woodland area with the fire roaring and candles lit.
Steve our chef will feed us well with his heavenly food creations. His food will reflect the time of the year and I swear you can taste love in every dish he prepares!
There is time between practices to enjoy walks in nature (there is a beautiful beach just 10 minutes away), fireside naps on the sofas, chats with new or old friends, reading books or maybe just some quiet solitude. It is your time.
